If pressed, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale would likely admit, albeit grudgingly, that there’s a fair-to-medium chance his government’s much-touted overhaul of Canada’s firearms laws won’t make it to the legislative finish line before the next election, as reported by iPolitics’ own Tim Naumetz.

The competing campaigns are only increasing in intensity, now the legislation is before the Senate, where Independent senators unaligned with any party caucus now effectively control the chamber, giving them the power to amend — or even defeat — government bills as they see fit.
