Social Enterprise & Entrepreneurship, (SEE), Northern Region Partnership

NORDIK is seeking a Northeastern Ontario Social Enterprise Development Coordinator for the Social Enterprise and Entrepreneurship (SEE) Northern Region Partnership. SEE is a NORDIK Institute led collaborative with a number of organizations across Northern Ontario currently delivering entrepreneurship and enterprise development services.

Social enterprises have a mission to address social, environmental or cultural challenges by reinvesting profits above operational expenses back into their missions, and using a triple bottom line (people, planet, profit) to measure their success. Social enterprises take many forms, including sole proprietorship, non-profits, and co-operatives to name a few. The Northeastern Ontario Social Enterprise Development Coordinator shall organize training and networking events, and deliver specific targeted sessions to support further development of social enterprises and social entrepreneurs across the region.

Contract Length: This is a seven-month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Under the direction of the two Social Enterprise Development Specialists and the Manager of Community Economic Development, Timmins Economic Development Corporation, and in collaboration with the Steering Committee, the person will be responsible for:

  • Providing basic training on social enterprise for ONE members and service providers;
  • Linking SEs with supports provided by ONE members and service providers;
  • Northeastern region network development between and among ONE members, service providers and SEs;
  • Assisting in organizing the Northeastern Regional Round Table in collaboration with key stakeholders;
  • Organizing and delivering bi-monthly events in various locations in the Northeastern Ontario
  • Referring social enterprises to peer mentorship, funding and scale-up opportunities;
  • Promoting additional training opportunities; and,
  • Developing partnerships as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

The candidate should possess a degree in Community Economic and Social Development, Business Administration or a degree in another Social Science discipline.

The candidate should possess the following skills:

  • A working understanding of the Social Economy, in general, and Social Enterprises and Entrepreneurship in particular;
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse cultural, geographic and intergenerational partners;
  • Strong knowledge of a diversity of Indigenous cultures;
  • Strong administrative skills including continual priority setting to meet emerging and evolving; networks and ideas while meeting employment objectives;
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment;
  • Experience in meeting and event organizing and planning;
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology (e.g. webinars, zoom meetings, etc.) in meeting project goals;
  • Experience in report writing and preparing funding applications;
  • Valid Drivers License;
  • Ability to travel frequently within Northeastern Ontario;
  • Bilingual (English/French) .

Candidate Eligibility:

  • University and college graduate; and,
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
